After the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, Laura began applying her professional skills to her role as a community activist. She was a founding member of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, now the largest gun violence prevention group in the country. Laura served as the organization’s New York State Communications Lead for many years, as well as establishing and growing the Moms Demand Action group on Long Island.
She oversaw media training for volunteers, organized speakers for press events, and created a statewide letter-to-the editor campaign to raise awareness of Moms Demand Action as an entity and gun violence prevention as an issue. She has spoken on panels and at press conferences and rallies around Long Island on behalf of this cause.
In addition to her work on gun violence prevention, Laura sits on the boards of the RVC Friends of MLK, a fundraising organization for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in Rockville Centre, NY, and the Rockville Centre Education Foundation.
